Established in 2003, Aasakta has produced over 30 plays and traveled extensively across India, showcasing its performances to diverse audiences. Under the artistic direction of Mohit Takalkar, the company has consistently experimented with innovative content and forms, successfully pushing the boundaries of contemporary theatre and venturing into unexplored terrains with each creation.
Aasakta has emerged as a leading contemporary theatre company in India, collaborating with a wide range of talented individuals. Since its inception, the company has worked with over 100 actors, 20 playwrights, and 30 technicians to create more than 30 full-length contemporary plays. These productions include 2 stage adaptations of novels, approximately 8 translations from other languages, and 20 original writings in 3 languages – English, Hindi, and Marathi.
Aasakta has maintained a prolific production schedule, staging at least 2 new productions annually since 2008, with each production performing 25 to 30 shows. Recent notable works include ‘Uney Purey Shahar Ek’, ‘Tichee Satra Prakarne’, ‘Mein Huun Yusuf Aur Ye Hai Mera Bhai’, ‘Chaheta’, ‘Via Savargaon Khurd’, and ‘Ghanta Ghanta Ghanta Ghanta Ghanta’, all of which have received critical acclaim and audience appreciation.
Aasakta’s plays have been showcased at various prestigious national and international theatre festivals, including Zee Natya Gaurav Puraskar, Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards, International Theatre Festival of Kerala, Bharat Rang Mahotsav, Pratibimba, Ranga Shakara Theatre Festival, Prithvi Theatre Festival, and Cairo International Theatre Festival for Experimental Theatre.
In 2024, Aasakta collaborated with the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), Mumbai to stage ‘Love and Information’, written by Caryl Churchill.
